Women Giving For Spartanburg

Founded in 2007 as a special project of the Foundation, Women Giving for Spartanburg is a group of passionate women who have joined together to enhance the quality of life in the Spartanburg community through collective giving. This women’s giving circle pools its money, energy, and ideas in order to create a measurable impact on the organizations it funds annually. All members are invited to be as involved in Committee work as they wish.

Women Giving is governed by a Board of Directors of women who are active leaders in the Spartanburg community.

Women Giving For Spartanburg

To maximize women’s leadership in philanthropy by engaging and informing its membership, increasing charitable contributions, and significantly improving the greater Spartanburg community through the impact of collective giving.

Women Giving For Spartanburg
  • EXPAND philanthropy and increase giving by local women of all ages;
  • BUILD awareness around issues of concern in the Spartanburg community, particularly civic health, economy, education, natural environment, public health, social environment, and cultural vitality; and
  • PROMOTE the power of collective giving

Join Women Giving for Spartanburg today and experience the power of collective giving and the joy of helping our local agencies change lives in the Spartanburg community. Membership dues are annually collected to contribute to a pooled fund for community grants. A small portion will also contribute to program costs such as mailings, events, and membership recruitment.

Regular Members

Regular Members are asked to contribute $1,100 for each year of membership ($100 going to program costs). All members receive one vote annually in determining organizations and/or programs to receive funding.

Junior Members

Junior Members (age 21 to 35) are asked to contribute $550 for each year of membership ($50 going to program costs). Junior members receive one-half vote annually in determining the organizations and/or programs to receive funding.

Women Giving wants you to join and to be as involved as you want to be. Join a committee and serve if your time allows.

Do I need to be nominated or invited to join?

No! All women with a desire to better the Spartanburg community are welcome!

What areas of the community will Women Giving fund?

Through its grantmaking, Women Giving for Spartanburg will provide high-impact grants to help address emerging issues and meet critical needs in the areas of arts and culture, education, environment, health, and human services. Women Giving for Spartanburg will hold several educational sessions each year to inform members of needs and opportunities within each area.

How are nonprofits selected for funding?

Through a grants application process, the grants committee of Women Giving for Spartanburg will seek projects and programs meeting critical community needs in the five targeted areas of funding. Through extensive research and due diligence, the committee will determine a slate of potential funding opportunities which will be voted upon by the membership.

When will the awards be announced?

Grants will be awarded at the Women Giving for Spartanburg Annual Luncheon each May. This event is open to the community!
