In May, over 80 leaders from seven cities across the southeast convened in Spartanburg as part of a two-day learning experience for the cohorts of MDC’s Network for Southern Economic Mobility. In 2017, The Spartanburg County Foundation was selected to participate in a two-year cohort through MDC’s Network for Southern Economic Mobility to address economic mobility barriers and build pathways to economic prosperity for youth and young adults, ages 14-24 years, in the lowest income bracket.
The purpose of the two-day convening was to bring all seven cohort cities together to learn from one another and receive additional technical support from MDC. This convening is one of three that will take place over the Foundation’s two-year participation in the Network. Spartanburg hosted the over 80 visitors at CC Woodson Community Center. Participants took part in networking dine arounds in downtown Spartanburg, heard from several Citizen Scholars, and toured Spartanburg’s Northside to learn more about the exciting work taking place in the community.
The Spartanburg County Foundation is the lead convener for Spartanburg’s participation in the Network for Southern Economic Mobility. The goal of this initiative is to address economic mobility barriers and build pathways to economic prosperity for youth and young adults, ages 14-24 years, in the lowest income bracket.
The goals for the May convening were to:
- Bring together cohorts 1 and 2 for a time of networking and learning
- Receive additional technical assistance from MDC and site coaches
- Learn about industry trends and issues related to addressing economic mobility through a systems change approach
More than 80 thought leaders from seven cities across the southeast region had the opportunity to come together to network, learn, and share about tools to implement in their areas to build pathways to prosperity for youth and young adults in the lowest income bracket.
