Investment Portfolio Performance – The Foundation’s Fiduciary Role

With a global pandemic shutting down much of the world’s economy, 2020 was a very challenging year in the financial markets. 
 
The effects of the shutdown resulted in steep losses in the financial markets during the first quarter, with the Dow falling 23% and the S&P 500 dropping 20%, by the end of the quarter.
 
At that time, the Foundation’s Investment Portfolio was down 13.9%.
 
Working in concert, the Foundation’s Investment Consultant, Prime Buchholz & Associates; the Investment Advisory Committee, Trustees and staff monitored the situation closely.
 
Relying on the Foundation’s Investment Policy, our strategy-guided decision making during the subsequent months allowed the investment portfolio to fully recover by the end of the second quarter!
 
The Spartanburg County Foundation is pleased to report that for calendar year 2020, the investment portfolio gained 12.0%.
